Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

OK, so the time has come for a change - the Legerra hasn't had much use lately as a second car to my 900 turbo. I've got someone interested in taking her over, but how much should I be asking for?

A quick spec from memory:

  • Registered in 1989 Legerra, 30k on the clock
  • 2.0 EFI pinto, piper fast road cam with vernier pulley, some head work by previous owner.
  • Shortened and baffled sump, high pressure oil pump
  • I believe the engine is mounted lower and further back than usual on custom mounts
  • GAZ coilovers, mostly polybushed
  • 5 speed type 9 box
  • Both hard and soft tops
  • Resprayed in 2011 - not brilliantly but looks good from a few feet
  • Adjustable camber front lower arms
  • Disc front brakes
  • Big golf radiator with 2x electric fans
  • Reinforced chassis
  • Modern 15" Wolfrace alloys

Thanks!

Honestly Ed, i'd stick it anywhere but ebay or gumtree and ask silly money. Its a good car, one of the better builds and a good spec. Pistonheads, Car and Classic, retro rides... come to think about it... I might be able to sell it for you.

I assume it still looks pretty much the same as when I took that bunch of photo's at Donington a few years back. PM me with some rough idea of what you want back on the car and i'll see what I can do.

Might be interested as well
Got some money burning a hole in my pocket an been waiting for a certain car to come onto the market about 8 months now an just about give up hope on it so might be interested in something else

Do I sense "paranoia" creeping in :-))

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to look at a Skoda 100 tomorrow so if that goes ahead it really will be time to thin the fleet. As I said I've got a friend who's interested, so I guess I'll get her MOT'd and see what happens. She could be available soon if that doesn't go ahead. As I'm sure you'll understand I do like the idea that I could still see the old gal.

You won't last long before you start looking at Phaetons and Legerra's again Ed

Please keep us in formed
Cheers

How much is it worth is a really tough question because it depends on how you look on it. I got my Legerra in a roadworthy state (apart from the hidden rust) and it cost me a little less than £1000. Since then it has cost over £1500 in repairs - radiator, water pump, thermostat, electric fan and switch, hoses, alternator, starter, battery, most brake components, 4 dampers and a windscreen. Then there are over £1000 of improvements - wheels and spacers, seats, hardtop, new camshaft (inc valve springs, followers etc), Vernier pulley, fuel injection cylinder head. My spreadsheet shows the total spend at about £4000 (for the parts used). My Legerra is now a similar spec to yours, except for not having fuel injection.

So, in answer to your question, somewhere between £1000 and £4000! But if it would keep you away from Skodas then I'd say it'd be priceless. :-)

I spat my coffee, James ya owe me a keyboard...

OK we're well overdue an update here. The skoda didn't happen, I drove it, decided to go away for a think and by the time I'd decided to go for it that afternoon it had already sold. Im sure a lot of you guys would say I was saved. The guy from the office who was interested in buying Pegs went cold on the idea, I think his wife might have had some words.

The 900 came off the road for a suspected head gasket job a few weeks ago following bursting a coolant hose on the way to collect a 940 turbo for a friend in Norfolk. Turned out after removing the head that it was in fact fine but since then the job's spiralled because I decided to sort out the rust and a few other issues. So that meant getting Pegs back out. After a light bit of recommissioning she flew through MOT with no advisories and hasn't missed a beat since, taking me to work and back every day. It's been good fun driving her again, I'd forgotten how much more lively she feels than the Saab.

Anyway, I've only got one garage and don't like leaving her out, plus I still feel I'm ready for a change. So Pegs will be for sale in the very near future. I need to put the wolfrace wheels back on because I'd rather keep the allycats, then I'll get some proper photos and a fuller description. I'll be looking for £2000 which I feel is fair because I've improved her in a number of areas since buying her in 2011.

Updates to follow...

Brian spotted you a few times Ed...

yup nearly crashed my pug one morning trying to get your attention....lol near national tyres

Oops I'm sorry Brian! She is rather conspicuous. Have you seen a yellow v8 phaeton about? I've only seen it a couple of times but I believe it's local.
