Whilt that looks the dogs danglies I found it easier to buy a spot blaster from aldi a little while ago it was something likd £10-15.....needs a good air supply though.

Ade, looking to use it freehand.  It will be outside and I will need plenty of protective gear.

I tried ground glass in the blaster and although it does the job its vicious and most certainly not biodegradable. It is however as tough as old boots and can be put back through a filter many times. I still have 25KG in a sealed bag. I decided that rather than run it through the blaster I would mix it with self levelling floor compound when I do the garage floor A to make a very non slip surface and B because it sparkles and looks pretty........ya think?

They discovered walnut shells as a biodegradable option for cleaning runway lights at airports a few years ago, well probably 30 years ago but that still seems quite recent to me!

Following comments about sand blasting my sump, I did some research and concluded that blasting with crushed walnut shells or soda is the answer.  A search of the web suggested that it is possible to build a cheap soda blaster.  Given that my compressor has a small ouput (6 CFM), I followed the local of using a gravity gun.  Therefore I have modified the ideas I found on the web and created this from various parts in the garage.  Long nozzle blow gun, 10mm clear plastic hose, 10mm copper pipe, Isolation valve and a paint hopper.  I have yet to try it as I am trying to locate the correct soda.  Hopefully it should work.
