"If anyone knows of another Phaeton with similar front fenders please post a photo or let me know. I think that she is the only Phaeton with these swept front fenders and lower rocker panels. I have searched everywhere and have never seen another Phaeton like her.

The drivetrain is a 1974 Humber Sceptre.

It is, it wasn't registered as a Dutton in the UK despite being built here so the old VIN is still in use.

Any search will have to be done using the existing data (ie, hillman/humber etc)

Paul, Getting the list of previous owners would be great. Now I have had the old girl for over 10 years. Would they retain the records that long?

Comment by Jim (across the pond) Adamek on February 25, 2016 at 16:12

Good morning, The old girl has a stamped Commission No. silver and red plate under the hood. LHD90783220CBH. This is listed as the vin number for the car. It think that it came with the car across the pond?

Yup, I checked, its this form. You do have to give them a reason why you want the data and tell them to what purpose it is going to be put. As James's car has technically acquired Historic vehicle status then it shouldn't be a problem if he informed them it was being done for personal research and not for publication. Also good to mention the word restoration rather than rebuild on ANY correspondence with the DVLA. Rebuild is a bad buzz word in DVLA speak.

James, would you like me to get the form and send off for the list of previous owners for you. Then you can write to them to see if you can get any more history on the car ......... does that sound like a plan?

Comment by Adrian Southgate on February 25, 2016 at 9:03

I'm sure it is Paul. The form is a V888, and they charge about a fiver I think.

Ade, is it not possible to trace the past owners through the DVLA as we have the original reg number?

Comment by Adrian Southgate on February 25, 2016 at 8:38

Do you not have a VIN plate under the bonnet James? You do know we do replacements don't you. You know the number surely as even in Florida you need registration and I don't think they'll do that without a VIN will they?

If the original builder hasn't come forward by now then I would suggest that he could have passed away or just doesn't look at the internet. There are some that don't even own a computer.
