No problem Dave.
I think I'm going to start a list somewhere of the bigger tools just in case people need to borrow them.
Things like the engine crane, spare compressor, air hammer, air powered body file, DA, spray guns etc etc.
Ade. The offer of a crane is very handy. The problem I have is that my garage is very small and full junk (not the car), so moving a crane around is a pain. When I dropped the engine & 'box in the corner of the garage, I found it very difficult to turn and move the hired crane within my small garage. So I bought an electric hoist which I plan to be able move between different mounting places in the garage so I could also use it lift items on the bench, or unload items at the side door to the garage. Having had a hernia op in the summer, I am equiping the garage in such a manner that I can maximise powered / mechanical lifting. I will also be able move the gearbox around using this electric hoist and a mobile trolley. Thanks again for the offer, but hopefully I will have the hoist up soon. I need to get the hoist up (well get the joists up as they are currently taking up garage floor space). It looks like I will get chance after next weekend, this week will be spent de-junking the daily driver ready for part-exing it at the weekend.
Hmmm gun thoroughly jumped I think...
Dave P. I have a 1 ton engine crane sitting at mine if you want to borrow it one weekend your more than welcome.you will have to drop the bonnet off or work from the side of the car.
I'm not using it for the next couple of weeks as I can't get it anywhere near the garage due to Sierra/Ambulance/Junk I'm only in Blackrod and it will fit in the back of an estate with the seats down as Dave T has had it in the back of his Rav.
Amazing how the sun gets to you boys.
Ade, I feel a visit coming on...
Ade. Yes, I have a hoist but at the moment nothing to fasten it to. Got a couple of very large joists to bolt together (side by side) to make a very large timber joist. This will then sit on some large steel angles that will be rawlbolted to each wall. This beam will then to braced to the existing roof structure to prevent any sideways movement. So progress with the hoist is much like progress with the Phaeton, all the bits are there I just need fasten them all together.
This is going to sound like a stupid question, do you own an engine hoist?
Rebuilding programme has slipped a bit. Had hoped to rebuild the engine, before Christmas, thats gone. Spent every weekend since looking for a replacement daily driver. Found a sensible diesel MPV this weekend, so after collecting it next weekend I should be able to get back on with some engine rebuilding work. I have bought an engine stand, so that is some progress.
