Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Good weekends work spoilt by a moments carelessness, Doing some welding under the Sierra yesterday, when the wife suddenly announced some smoke in the cab. Somehow a spark from the grinder or welder sneaked in through the gearbox tunnel and smouldered away on the cloud 9 underfelt. Quickly got it under control but the toxic fumes meant leaving it to ventilate. Noticed today that the windows were a tad black and sticky, now found the whole interior is coated with a sticky, smoky probably toxic film. It has ruined the headlining, the seats and floor are all easy clean materials, but the car wreaks. Bother is the polite word. Plus the fire extinguisher didn't.

Have you reported this to ebay Steve? I would suggest a phone call rather than email as they are automated.

It's not me that gets kicked out, it's the carpet! And I will be getting more soon when she gets new carpet for the lounge. I will have piles of carpet (pun intended).

Even more miffed. Went to collect my gearbox and diff from ebayer and he won't let me have it. Reckons it was to cheap, and don't care what I do, just f##  off. Happy New year to you to.

I often think that I should get someone else to watch out when I weld as I often don't realise that I've started a fire until I take the mask off. Nothing serious so far, just a hole in my jumper and holes in the garage carpet.

Just seen the weather forecast, batten down the hatches. May need my wellies, not cool.

I had the Ark Royal on fire and a Nuclear Sub, over the years. My boss reckoned I was paid by the fire brigade union. :-))

luckily I never weld in the garage, on the car that is, the wife reckons I need certifying, the extinguisher was best before 2005 ex MOD.

"Bother" will do because even "F..." isn't powerful enough to have any effect. That is a real head-in-the-hands moment. It is most unfortunate. All I can say is that it could have been a lot worse - things are never so bad that they can't be made worse.

We use a citrus based cleaner at work Steve, it'll shift label glue and various other glues including evo, maybe worth a try, followed up with oxygen based cleaning foam to remove the rather citrusy smell of the label remover.

Want me to mail you down a couple of cans?
