DuttonOwners

Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Define what we as the DOC are about...

Just what are we trying to achieve here and on the other Dutton sites?

Do we wish to only preserve Duttons as they left the factory?

are we looking to use and modify our cars to suit the modern road conditions?

are we looking to find new ways of solving old problems or are we looking to keep a supply of classic parts to maintain the cars as they were built?

Are we going to discourage modifying of the cars bodywork?

what modifications are acceptable, if any?

Are we looking to keep Duttons as a cheap to buy car or do we wish to see values rising (here in the UK... Because they do have a value abroad)

How, if we wish to see values rising do we achieve it?

Just a starter for discussion.....

The DOC should be about supporting the members/owners of Duttons helping to keep them on the road and helping others back on the road and encouraging owners to imrove the presentation of the marque at shows.

If the club is to discourage modification they why did everybody get out of their trees a month or two back when the euro policy makers were trying to prevent modification! Don't see this is an issue for the club, owners own their cars not the club and so long as your modification is not illegal then its entirely up to the owner how THEIR car should look. There'll always be a few purists but tuff, they'll have to suck it up - if its got a dutton chassis and chassis number then its a dutton!

Now where's that John W - I wanna buy one of his lotus style nosecones to go with the Silva rear body tub :-))))

I think you have two very different discussions here Dave,  1, About the cars.  2, About the DOC.

Now the following is only my point of veiw.

Starting with the DOC .....  I have been a paid up member since I first got my Phaeton in 2008, and to be honest, apart from DT Mag Im not too sure what I get for my fee. I got my insurance through Adrian Flux before I was a member, and when I said to them I had joined the club and should have a discount, they said I had the best deal anyway. So It seems I only continue paying my subs out of loyalty to my new hobby.

Now, Im not stupid!!  I know exactly how clubs work.... as over the years, I have held just about every committee position including Chairman, in a Diving club.... So, the DOC has a committee as a club should have, all of who, Ive never met, (before its said, YES I know its my fault I will get to an AGM when my car is on the road!!)  The point is, the DOC is run by invisible people who do nothing to contact and interact with their members. apart from the committee members who are active on here, and although I have never met them, I feel that I know them and the rest of you quite well, as I choose to show an interest in what you are doing and saying.

Who is Derek Hardacre? who is Aly Rainey?, who is Nick Chick?  If I go on the official DOC forum, I have no idea who Im talking to because every one wants to remain anonymous and use online names. So what actually happens to the £12.00 membership that we all pay?

Committee's are fine (although old fashioned stuff and nonsense) for a group of people with an interest, who regularly meet together in the same place, unfortunately it will not work, in a club/group of people who are spread all over the country, unless they are committed to joing in with every one in the club.

Given that the members are spread far and wide, and the active ones (who arnt being secretive) are HERE !!!  on this site, joining in, making a contribution, interacting with each other and having some fun along the way,  to be honest, this IS the Dutton Owners Club as far as I'm concerned, and I would be willing to help fund an improvement to this site.

I feel that the DOC needs a radical shake up. you don't need 13 people to run a modern club, it can be done with 3 or 4 officials and the active members.

Foot Note;  I mean no disresect to any one on the DOC committee as it stands.

The Cars;

My veiw is that as long as the cars are being rebuilt and kept on the road, we are doing something to preserve the Dutton Marque. It is impossibe to control what people do with in them as long as, what they do, remains roughly with in  law. And why should we??, we live in a free society, so let and let be, there are many other things in life that are worth worring about.  Any way why would we want all cars to look the same?? that would be boring!!! If all you guys want to radicaly change what your Phaeton looks like, then be my guest, when mine is the only one left that looks orignalish........ it will be worth some money :-)

The issue with stealing id's is another topic.

PS  can any new site (if) have a spell checker
