Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Found a problem with this V8, 16 valves to grind in, 16 rockers to grind and polish, 16 ports to clean up 8 pistols to weigh and balance, plus rods to polish and balance. I'll be here for days! Fingers are rubbed raw and I've only stripped it all and acid cleaned it all. The garage smells great :-)))

I tried the roof wing

Still got it somewhere. Works to deflect air over a caravan, does naff all for fuel economy or performance.

Is that a chrome heater return pipe? That's posh! I'm very jealous of the rocker cover too. A 2 litre Pinto should be pretty nippy in a Sierra. My best 0-60 in my Rickman is 9.8 sec, and the Rickman is a little heavier, I think. I find that I get away from the lights better than the majority of the traffic but the occasional 2 litre Diesel Audi will show me a clean pair of heels.

Just clocked up 1000 miles in the Sierra with Pinto power. Its OK, but not spectacular. The good news is its still oil and water tight, drinks a fair bit of fuel, but that is a heavy right foot :-) Intend to carry out some tuning mods over the break, which may or may not be a success. And these Toyo tyres are wearing, fast !

Maybe a sticking injector? It might be that an inspection of the plugs would tell you something by comparing the 4 cylinders. If it was a sticky injector then maybe the long durations needed to get a rich mixture when the engine is cold is enough to get it going. Maybe it has a cracked coil that is affected by the heat soak when the car is stopped (but kept cool by the fuel when running?)

I wonder if it stopping and turning it off for a few seconds would clear it. If not then you can try taking the plug leads off one by one and see if it is always the same cylinder. It seems strange that it only seems to happen when it is hot but not when it is already running.

Have woke up feeling very unwell, decided I needed to be looked at. The Sierra has been very strange too. Keeps wetting the plugs, going on 3 or less. I had to use it today to visit the clinic for the brain dead (that's a nickname the nurse use :-)). Just like it, it started and ran there on 4, perfect. Came out a hour later, and it started on 3 and came home on 3, new plugs, leads, distributor, coil. engine earth have all been changed. Plugs too cold?? just been out t throw it in the skip, and it started on 4, someone's getting a tad stressed, Basil Fawlty moment coming on.
