Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Found a problem with this V8, 16 valves to grind in, 16 rockers to grind and polish, 16 ports to clean up 8 pistols to weigh and balance, plus rods to polish and balance. I'll be here for days! Fingers are rubbed raw and I've only stripped it all and acid cleaned it all. The garage smells great :-)))

I also use the speed snap connectors (miniature versions of modern plumbing connections ) I have one which has been on a car engine for 5 years and no signs of leaks....despite removing it on numerous occasions for various reasons (engine removal for clutch change for example )

I use 8mm polythene pipe good for 10 bar pressure and unleaded don't affect it.

You don't really want to use copper or zinc plated as ethanol strips copper and zinc from the surface, if you have fuel injection then the injectors will clog up.

lol, No Dutton site in America. :-((

Seems the modern hard stuff that mondeo etc use is best. But it's the joining. Copper is ok, but you need a bit of flexi somewhere, just have to keep an eye on this. Locost site has a thread as does a hot rod site I visit. Even an American site is on about it. Big Vern is up on all this ethanol stuff.

I have got 10 mm copper, it's just where it joins pump, filter, carb, and a piece from tank, bloody nuisance but glad I found it before it all started breaking up and blocking things. Seems it may have attacked the rubber in the pump, and just read it strips zinc out of brass. That's jets etc. Bloody stuff.

One day up, one day down ! Fuel pump has failed, jury rigged a facet pump I had laying about, all well. However< all the fuel hoses, especially produced for unleaded are showing signs of delaminating. Seems this is common and 3 years is about the "safe" limit due to the extra ethanol now in fuel. Beware, take care. All mine are now renewed with non ebay hose, Euro Car Parts, so probably the same stuff :-))

Ah, well, good news and bad news, baffle has come adrift in sump. Bad news? Water pump and alternator are rattling on the front bearings. Drive it 'til it's bust, words from my good mate

Trouble these days, is that you have to keep on working to live!!  Would like nothing more than to buy me an old fishermans cottage in Outer Hope, and spend me days beach combing and tinkering........ one can dream!
