Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Great weather, time i investigated that long "running water" leak.

Yes its been a while since i first discovered the leak, but until now the weathers been crap in the"garage", anyway i thought all along it was water pump gasket and it was. Whoever had fitted the pump last put the gasket on without any compound of any description, after cleaning up the e/ block and pump faces i made a new gasket and fitted it and the pump useing a little silicone sealer. The biggest problem i had was seperating the viscous fan and the pump, as i wanted to ditch it in favour of an electric one.I had an idea that the fan screwed off the pump, the flats on the shaft gave it away, what i did 'nt know was it was lefthand thread! So after a while of tightening it further perhaps i tried it the other way and with quite a lot of effort it was on its way off.Anyway two runs out and no more water dripping on the floor and the radiator stays full.

Been looking at the available space again today, just might be able to get a thin fan in,on the engine side of the rad, will have to see what they have at the breakers. Weathers good Stephen, but my nearest beach is 60 some miles either due west or due east.By the way welcome Martin, hope you enjoy the site.

Yeh my jeans have shrunk too Stephen, in my case quite a bit! I will check out the Fiesta fans Adrian thanks for that because it will most likely have to go between grill and rad.

early Fiesta fan is a reasonable fit on an escort rad but with the legerra it has to go infront of the rad and act as a pusher (means wiring it backwards) i'm sure its not the most efficient design though as the blades were designed and shaped to 'pull'. You also have to trim the excess plastic away from the frame to make it a skeleton to allow normal airflow when the fan is off.

I know my local breaker fairly well so i should be able to prise a fan from him for a tenner, and yes i remember the frogeye, these things are a bit like fashion were things go out and then after a while come back in, anybody else still got their flaired jeans from the 70's?.

My Mates Frogeye came with keyless entry and button start back in the '50s so technology hasn't moved on much then :-))))

Electric fans in a range of sizes £35 pair on the bay of E think the single ones were about £25. Last time I got an electric fan from a breakers it cost me £20 !
