There you are 1st fine day for a run, thought good idea to pick up new Duttoneer Steve who as taken over Garys' project, and give him a blast up to Salmesbury via Rivington. So met up with Martin and off we go, up in to Rivington and the country road. There was black ice all over the place, which made for an interesting drive, even managed to slide down a hill on the stuff, only to come to a sign at the bottom of the hill that stated DANGER MUD ON THE ROAD (should have read FROZEN mud on the road).
Then the trouble stated, the car started to miss fire and cut out, showing all thesigns of fuel starvation. I managed to keep it running for about another mile then she just stopped, nothing. Opened the bonnet to check the fuel filter, plenty of fuel, checked all the wire ,coil, dissy etc...
Tryed to start her again, this time she stated and ran. But, as soon as we started to move she stopped again, this time there was absolutly nothing. Full set of light on the dash but the start button would not work. This is the first time I haven't taken any tools with me on a run in 6 years, and she chooses today to breakdown. Luckily Martyin had pliers, and screw driver, even circuit tester. after a bit of dismatling of the dash, the problem was solved. The ignition cut off swith had shed a screwand the main ignition feed had come away, so after hotwiring them together, we were soon back on our way.
S just one more job for the winter months, Oh and the gearbox is getting even noisier may have to change that before the Lakes trip, or just upgrade my RAC cover...
