Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

No, nothing like that I can assure you :-) Due to some inconsiderate tw*t hitting my Saab putting it in the garage at my expense, I've had to press the Sierra back into service. Luckily I had not got to far into doing the swap over, so a simple job to recommission. Decided for the first time to use the heater, now the Sierra is not entirely water tight, so after 15 minutes steam started to be blown out the vents. This condensed on the glass and no amount of wiping etc. would clear it. Thinking the heater was naff I thought another job while its stripped out. A quick nosey and it appears the housing was full of leaves which were wet. Cleaned it all out and still I have steamy windows. Driving with the windows open soon clears it but it is fun to see the damp air being thrown out the vents. Heater is not leaking just never used in 12 years, hopefully it will dry out a bit each trip. Or I'll just turn the thing off.

Just took the Sierra down the hot rodders, first time they have seen it in motion, needed to get my TIG welder and associated parts back to the cave for Chrstmas work. Any way, after they stopped laughing, they want to rebody it, "nuthin that ugly should move dude", the car or me?They now have the turbo cosworth lump in place and have it running, so, pay day for me. That turbo sounds awesome, even I can here it whistling away, no inter cooler yet makes it sound better. Should be a rolling chassis this week, and they are mad enough to drive it up the lane. Will post pictures soon. Working there on Wednesday so will take camera, have never got the phone to talk to the computer in a language it understands. Still aiming for a New Year engine and box swap, got a few spare days while the wife goes to work and the sales etc. :-))

I should of known, after a long struggle getting the wheel nuts off, found the brakes on metal to metal contact, all 3 of them, one was seized, type 16 again, anyway good old Euro Car Parts had the bits on the shelf and oil filter as well, so tonights task is fitting it all back together, better then Strictly come wotsit, and I'm a melos owner, get me out of here. I'm looking for a mark3-4 Cortina back axle, cheapish :-))

went from steamy windows to smoky tacho this morning ! disconnect and throw in the back :-)) THEN, all blinking day to get off 4 locking wheel nuts that everyone else gave up on. Big allen key, bigger hammer and a good weld, had them off.............eventually. Now 4 ruined locking nuts :-))))

Looks like I might have to extend my car port all the way up the side of the house then... I can't get a car in mine either

Humans are steam generators so with the heater off the car will quickly steam up unless you have the windows open. Then there is all of the water that has leaked in. I reckon that a dry garage is the only solution for a Dutton. Of course I can't get my car in the garage.

Its a Dutton, expect water ingress... Mine are both 'leakers'. Corner of the roof on the leggy, right above my right leg... (typical) and the left door shut on the Sierra which runs down into the footwell and out through a hole in the floor pan. Both steam up nicely after a couple of minutes running but both have well used heaters so clear pretty quick once warm.
