Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Gents

Could really do with some “thinking outside of the box” on this one with the intent of being safe and legal (mot).

It’s a strange one and having viewed other Dutton chassis on here, mine appears to be different.

I have a S1 on leaf springs and the seats are well just... seat pads. The car does not have any proper lower seat belt mountings (I intend to use 3 point harnesses). I have a location point for the harness eyebolt (just below shoulder level).

My problem is that under the tub where your bum sits on the seat pad, is nothing, no metal at all.

Options

A Scrap the car

B Make an alloy plate that bolts to the chassis (110 cm x 50 cm) and bolt the eyebolts to this. Is this classed as structural and requires welding

C Weld in some metal, but means taking out the petrol tank

D other solutions welcome

If I can’t solve this issue without loads of hassle / money then it will have to go.

I will get some pictures up tonight; in the mean time I have attached a rough sketch.

If you look at the photo of the interior you can seat where the previous owner has fitted eyebolts in front of the seat pads (mad)

i have the box section that runs across behind the seats , i also have that triangular fillet piece at the bottom of the roll bar , however i think they will be too high almost half way up yer back and not by yer arse. I might add some metal cross member as i have a bit of a plan that our apprentice will help me with

Thats a tricky one, if it were me I'd be tempted to make a frame out of flat to go around the base of the seat box that picked up on the cross member in front. Then run something up the back if there is anything up there to attach to?

Neil response and Photos sent with my "potential" design solution to your post Box. IT still a mystery hope you locate my response. See also Photos

Look at my Legerra project I show a picture of the S1 I stripped down to empty my garage. When I showed the propshaft you can see a chassis rail across the width of the car witk 4 nuts welded to the top of the rail (2 each side) they are the seat belt mounts........they are well under the seat base.

Same as mine are on the S1

i just couldn't do that from my phone for some reason

Its one of the best you can get I think it has something to do with the way the touchscreen interface works.

decided to make a plate 110 cm x 55 cm x 3 mm thick chequer plateI,  mocked one up out of cardboard and looks ok , so will have a go at making it

will bolt it to the chassis through some holes that are already present -need to make sure its nice and safe as my grandson wants a ride in granchas magic flying car as he calls it

Neil

Make sure to use crush tubes if bolting through chassis rails
