Attempted to fit a Pinto engine in my S2 Pheaton tonight, but the engine mounts look wrong. With the rubber mounts fitted it would not fit. With them removed it is still too tight for the engine to fit in. It sort of looks like each steel engine is about 2" too wide. There different sizes of pinto mount? Or do you use cross flow mounts. As the engine hoist is on hire I need to act quickly. Help please

1 take the hoist back and borrow mine, free.
2 there are two sided engine mounts, to correctly fit a pinto into a crossflow space you should use RS ally ones however you may get away with using two of the small size mounts. If you want to take a ride down to mine you can measure as I have a pinto in an escort sized crossmember on the Sierra. Are your mounts the same size?
The hire cost isn't too much of an issue as my wife knows the family who own the local hire shop, it is just a time thing.
The mounts are slightly different sizes they came off a Cortina Pinto. I think I will lower the engine on to a board and then order some RS2000 mounts.
Guess I should asked this question before fitting. Looks like I have a set of Pinto engine mounts for sale.
I went and checked, RS mounts are the same size (depth from block to mounting face) as the cortina ones, just a little more robust being thinner rubber and circular design. If the mounts are standard cortina then it should fit (like the one shown in Dave's second photo below.) If this is to wide then your engine mounts on the dutton may be for a different block altogether. Wasn't yours a V6 originally?
Just measured the longest mounting. Just the steel part is about 6.5" so with the rubber will be approx 8" long. RS2000 ones look shorter than the ones I've got. I was guessing mine are Cortina, but being an EBay purchase I guess they could be off anything Pinto. RS ones are now ordered
Maybe they are Ford Sierra ones - I think that Sierras were a good bit wider than Escorts so I would imagine that the engine mounts might need to be longer too.
I have now got a set of RS2000 mounts, just one question. Which side do I fit the longer one?
I think its the nearside that needs the longer mount however the best way is to drop the lump into the hole and test them. (or wait until I've been to check mine.)
Putting the long mount on the offside will give you more clearance on the exhaust but may twist the engine out of line.
I'll check the Legerra.
All sorted. Pinto fitted. Will try and "test fire" it this weekend. Just need to finish making up a temporary loom to run the ignition module and Bosch electronic dizzy - I think I know how to do it.
