Here's a stick in the hornets nest, Whilst i am generally in favour of the tax exemption for the the classic cars. I am not in favour in the exemption for all cars registered as "classics"
1: Kits should be judged from the build date not the donor registration date.
2: The engine and transmission must be also age related to retain the tax exemption.
i.e. a Mk I or II ford escort with a heritage shell and IRS and a zetec is NOT a classic.... it is a new car that happens to look like a classic.
If you decide to re-engine an old car which happens to be tax exempt for a more modern engine you loose the tax exemption, if you replace with a contemporary engine or a direct copy (if its new) then you can keep the tax exemption.

Difficult one that! In theory, that rules out all kit cars, unless they remain the same spec as when they were first registered and using ALL the original donor parts.
Hmmmm, that rules my one out, so I will be going with the side of the debate which states "as long as the vehical looks like the original from the outside and retains the original chassis ......Good enough"
