If it does have the chassis number on it then maybe i'll leave it there, just annoying!
Its the spare wheel mount not that useful as the spare wheel blocks airflow to the rad.
As for the chassis number we're back to that urban myth again.
I've looked already Pete and I couldnt find a chassis number there though now you have all the paint stripped back you could prove me wrong if there is a number there:-)
if its ther like mine and daves it is stamped along the back edge i looked for mine for months then found it when i was going to bin it.
not all Duttons were stamped.....some were just crayoned on in indelible pen. you dont need to leave it there so long as the chassis has a chassis plate fixed to it or the chassis is stamped somewhere (required for MOT)
As Danny says mine and his were stamped on the top plate to the rear edge and if you were looking at your car as in the picture it would read correctly. it should be something like Pxxx or Pxxxx (where "X" is a number)
the rads on Duttons were intended to sit between the engine and the cross member just behind the bracket shown.....this is not a great place for the radiator to be and probably contributes to many of the overheating problems common on Duttons. move the Radiator as far into the nose cone as it is possible to get it and then duct the air coming through the grille so that it has no option but to go through the rad core, you will have a car that will stay cool then.
go to a scrap yard and find a rad to fit if necessary (VW polo, golf, or a Corsa....any thing small enough to fit) i used a Rover 214 rad as it came with its own fan and fan switch, the rad needed sloping back a little to get it to fit under the bonnet but it won't affect the cooling, so long as its ducted. Do not assume the air will go through the radiator just because its there, it will not.
I'm not going to be able to mount it much further forward Dave as need to get the intercooler in front of it, plan to funnel the air in though.
intercooler.......hmm what engine you planning to fit? something interesting like an enduro diesel? shh don't let Vern know he isn't a fan of oil burners....
polo rads on ebay are as cheap as the scrapyard ones and leccy fans are cheap as chips too. bought two 8" for the GTM for £35 delivered
Yeah, this was the rad I was looking at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2809934322...
Had a good look at the mount, no sign of chassis number stamped on it. It will be going in the bin!
