Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

I'm after a massive favour from someone to give me a hand sorting out my trailing arm brackets on the chassis/axle of my s1. They existing mounts need cutting off and redoing as they really don't line up and i had to lever them to get them back in as the bolts don't go through straight. I'd like to do the 5 link at the same time, I have another arm ready. I'm not confident in doing this job myself.

I have the facilities at the workshop if someone wants to come to me or if there is anyone not too far away i'd even bring the chassis to them (could leave it with them for a week or so if needed). This is the only job that is preventing me from finishing the chassis now and starting to put the car back together! If someone can help i'm happy to chuck them a few quid for there help.

Cheers

The factory set them up at an angle......but it drilled the holes for the mounting bolts as if they weren't !
My car has them at an angle and the brackets adjusted to suit. the axle moves very freely now. whereas it used to bind. i am convinced the excessive bush wear was down to the poor alignment.

Pete im 80 miles away (1hr 45 according to interweb) so if your majorly stuck i could try and help. i do have a snazzy welder which you are welcome to use if u car move the car?

I thought about rose jointing the rear end but was put off by Big Vern's warnings of chassis cracking

How many times have you read through my build Stephen ???  Fully rose jointed 5 link, with vertical shocks which have next to no lateral movement through out the travel of the axle. They have to be angled in to avoid the brackets hitting the chassis rail. Can be seen on Mr G's Pete.

I've read through your build thread several times Paul it's very impressive, attention to detail is great. In fact your build is the reason I decided to keep part of the inner tub for the seat back. I just think rose joints would be too harsh and will wear out pretty quickly

Thanks Pete, this car is being built purely for fun, and will not be used as a daily drive, so the comfort side of things has not been factored in too much. There are three grades of joints available,  and what is not shown is the grease boots for the rose joints, once the car is at the correct road weight and the suspension has had its final adjustments, all the joints will be coated in liquid grease and have the boots fitted to seal them.  Who knows how long they will last, McGill Motor Sport sell an awful lot them and say they are pretty robust, we will see.

Mine is being built just for fun too but I do plan on putting some miles on it, I fully intend to repeat the Nurburgring trip I did on the bike a couple of years ago. In fact I was talking about booking a ferry for next summer the other day to give me a deadline!

The ones I'm using have a PTFE liner.

Big thanks to Dave Adam's for coming and helping to redo all of the chassis brackets earlier
