Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Today I have been mostly...Rebuilding a Sierra

The first clear day on the Sierra rebuild has a pedal box back in (thanks Daryl) heater box semi fitted (needs a gasket and one bolt hole re-drilling), bonnet hinges removed and repaired and a partial repair on the body to stop the hinge twisting back into the car through the scuttle.

Nudge bar is back off again ready to crank an engine in, the question is ... what engine?

2l pinto with a choice of 4 or 5 speeds or a 1300 xflow  for which I have no gearbox :-(

Its a xflow based car so fitting the pinto will mean engine mounts, gearbox mount and a prop at the very least oh and fitting the exhaust around the steering column which will have to be moved.

I'm seriously thinking about going to the local scrappies to see whats on offer in the morning.

better to keep that pinto intact i think. if you do have a tensioner that would be awesome.

Camshaft pulley sorted.

watching lots of bits on ebay at the moment but still short of a cambelt tensioner as £30 seems a bit steep.

what size is the pointy end Daryl 21 or 23 spline

I'm probably going to get a one piece made even though it will 'blow the  budget' but thanks anyway.

Thanks Danny

I don't think the CVH parts will fit the pinto.

I have been out there and done a bit today. Cleaned the top end of the slight surface rust, cleaned out all the old oil sludge from around the camshaft and all the moving parts, washed it into the sump with gunk so it can fester down there and dissolve the sludge. Plugs out, turned the crank so all the pistons were clear of the valves and then cranked the camshaft over with a spanner all freed off now it doesn't feel too bad.

I'm sure I can find a belt tensioner, thermostat housing, engine mounts and other bits on ebay unless someone on here has them. I found a four branch manifold at the back of the garage so might have to get the grinder and welder out.

decision made for me by finding a bag with all the bolts, starter motor and a few other bits for the pinto. 2 litre pinto power it is. Bet it runs like a tractor after being stood for 5 years, that is of course IF it runs.
- Has anyone got a cam belt tensioner and a camshaft pulley and bolt for a non 205 block knocking about spare?

Just thinking out loud here as it were.
Xflow needs
Gearbox, sump , starter and clutch. re-assembly as its in bits.

Pinto needs
cleaning out as its been standing with the cam cover off, camshaft pulley and bolt, driven plate as I cant find it, starter motor, dizzy (damaged) dipstick tube (damaged) and dipstick.

Both need radiator, propshaft, exhaust and re-plumbing and all to be completed in less than two weeks from today on no budget, not asking for much am I :-)
Best I head out to the garage I think.
