Why is it you can spend so much time on something so simple ?????? AHHHHHRRRRRR

I have a Mini wiper stalk, and can not find the correct wiring diagram for it.

It is a two speed stalk with a flick switch down for one wipe, and a screen was push button.

Wire colours and what they do, well most of em!

1 Light green    (12v feed)

2 Red/Green     (position 1 slow Speed) (also flick switch)

3 Blue/Green    (position 2 fast speed)

4 Green/Black  (push button takes 12 v from Light/Green for screen wash)

5 Brown/Green  (when switch in off position is joined to Red/Green other wise not joined to anything ???????? )

Any ideas what the Brown/Green is for chaps?  Does any one have a diagram for this switch?

Found this on the web Paul

BLACK - earth

LIGHT GREEN/ORANGE - power in from ign. sw. through fuse

RED/LIGHT GREEN - low speed wipe

BLUE/LIGHT GREEN - high speed wipe

BROWN/LIGHT GREEN - intermittent

Also found this diagram which indicates brown/green as self park http://homepage.ntlworld.com/martinwhistler/wiper.pdf

Yep, seen that one too Pete! along with another two different wire colour schemes, seems the one ive got is a bit elusive :-)  There is no earth wire on it, it switches a live feed to everything.

Is it possible to take a pic of the schematic Steve?  When the switch is off, I have continuity between Green/Brown and Red Green  other than in the off position. the Green/Brown wire is not doing anything.

Think I've sussed it ........ when the stalk is moved to the off position the Green/Brown wire is an earth connection to stop the motor dead in its tracks when the park switch is engaged...... I think !!!  just need to clarify which wire takes an ignition 12v feed and which wire to fit the Green/Brown to on the wiper motor.  Mr Adams, expect a call from me tomorrow  ;-)))

No probs paul......I have some diagrams of these switches somewhere. When I get home from work today I will have a look.

realto wiring

that may help

as this might as well......

lucas wiring colours

I have used the reliant wiring diagrams for teaching purposes.....my own article was based round it!

Robin or realto.....very simple wiring looms.

Well after several attempts and one worrying moment where I well and truly fried a test lead.... can still taste burning insulation ....YUK (note to self, always use a fuse on your test rig Sheridan)    I have finaly sorted it !!!  and the answer was staring me in the face all the time. The Brown/Green wire was the key to getting the park switch to work correctly. When the stalk is in the off position, the Brown/Green and Red/Green(slow speed) wires are joined and so become the switched positive feed to the park switch with out having to use a relay.

This wiring lark is proving to be a right giggle, the ECU uses control relays for the radiator fan, fuel pump and power supply ( injectors and coil packs), and so is not easy to join it together with the CBS wiring module which has some relays already built in to it.  Coupled with the fact that the ECU activates its relays by earthing them, you have to be on your toes as to how they are wired........ all a little confusing ;-))))

switching the negative on the relay is no different to switching the live, power supply to the relay is constant via a fuse activated by ignition switch, the ecu sends the negative when demaned job done.

This is true, just gets confusing when you have a mix of the two .......... Ha Ha, so as not to confuse myself, when I first started, I wired in, all the earth terminals on the relay banks, one less hole to worry about pushing the wrong wire into ..... DOH ..... in three of em, the wires from the ecu are wired into the earth position, so out they all came again TEE HEE.
