Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

So, you go to sell your car on the bay, how does the charges work out, because the dearest thing I have ever sold is £200. And I thought the charges very expensive. Is it a percentage thing? Or an agreed fee beforehand.

Sounds like a matter of inspector interpretation to me. No reason to suppose the ford design is better than so many bespoke kit car chassis. I wonder if it's be worth trying another test centre

Martin, I have anS4 project with virtually new bodywork that I cant give away:( I doubt there'll be anyone to save it. Peeps just dont seem to want S4's

It's Grahame's one, Dave Adam's mate.

I have a feeling that it used to belong to the DOC chairman, Derek, but could be mistaken.

it did, grahams project has seriously been delayed because of some large bills on his Mk 3 Cortina rebuild so its unlikely that he will be able to get to the Dutton before 2017 so he thought it would be better to move it on just now and look for a project closer to the time he can work on.

Melos and Phaeton chassis are the same arn't they?

I agree with that front susp analysis, esp the welded TCA (although even that is really ok - it's not cast iron)

It could do with some more horizontal plane triangulation too -  which can then be used to support engine mountings. Ours has that and also the nova column. It was alot of work but mainly in the thinking department.

I suspect the anti roll bar isn't needed anyway so probably the way to go another time would be to cut the front off the chassis and rebuild using locost bits. Since the Phaeton has a flip front it would even be relatively easy to retrofit.

I know that some ppl will worry about registration stuff when doing such a thing but to be honest there are so many extensively modded production cars running about (rwd Minis, irs Escorts anyone?), not to mention replacement non-OEM chassis (Landrovers, 2CVs) it's a low level concern imho..

who remembers this one? all that body work in vain :-(( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUTTON-KIT-CAR-CHASSIS-AND-BODY-SHELL-/15...  Ade, any pictures of it as it was ?

Yes Steve. Including registration details VIN etc. This was a complete car not long ago. The guy that did the mods must be gutted.

Gutted? He didn't have to sell it though. The Escort parts command such a premium now. Barn find MK2 2dr recently sold for over £3000 The best Dutton cant compete with that in the UK and I think it was too new to sell abroad. There's even a Guy in Austrailia buying up Aussie mk1's and 2's ad shipping them to the uk, Start at £2000 plus shipping :0

One wonders how long before Duttons start getting stolen for their parts :(

Stolen for their parts? I leave my Sierra with the keys in it unlocked and no takers, maybe it needs a neon sign :-))

The guy that has it now is an escort breaker (mainly for the mid wales rally boys)
Behind those big barn doors there is an aladins cave of Escort spares
He has broken a few Duttons before an always sells the Dutton parts of cheap
Nice guy to deal with

Its all there on other pages Martin, click on his title and it all comes up, including a Stag and MGB bits.
