Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

OK, so the time has come for a change - the Legerra hasn't had much use lately as a second car to my 900 turbo. I've got someone interested in taking her over, but how much should I be asking for?

A quick spec from memory:

  • Registered in 1989 Legerra, 30k on the clock
  • 2.0 EFI pinto, piper fast road cam with vernier pulley, some head work by previous owner.
  • Shortened and baffled sump, high pressure oil pump
  • I believe the engine is mounted lower and further back than usual on custom mounts
  • GAZ coilovers, mostly polybushed
  • 5 speed type 9 box
  • Both hard and soft tops
  • Resprayed in 2011 - not brilliantly but looks good from a few feet
  • Adjustable camber front lower arms
  • Disc front brakes
  • Big golf radiator with 2x electric fans
  • Reinforced chassis
  • Modern 15" Wolfrace alloys

Thanks!

no ed not seen that. yes you was coming down that dodgey lane near white bear.....some how i was trying to mouth to you i own a dutton lol....it looked nice ed.

So, another update!

First - Pegs. She's been doing fine in daily use, with the odd hiccup - had to reseal the wiper hole in the scuttle after water leaked through it into the fuel pump relay and I've replaced a steering U/J but generally she's risen well to the challenge of daily use - much better than my other cars as you'll see!

Second - the 900. Finally got the jobs finished, which was head gasket, silicone coolant hoses, new suspension, and what turned into lots of welding to the back arches, boot floor and rear suspension points. Made a really good job of it and it flew through MOT. On the second journey out, the gearbox started whining which very quickly developed into a howl before finally seizing completely in the middle of Sheffield. So that was a tow home, and I set about trying to source a replacement box. Now for the twist, a few weeks later, a giant branch fell off a tree outside my house and crushed it. So that's the end of Babs, for now...

So, though Pegs has been working fine, she's really not all that practical to use as an only car for me so I decided it was time to find a modern compromise. Some searching found a MY 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero in really good condition and with all the necessary work done. Collected it, and all was great until four days later (yep) it started running on three and blowing smoke and oil through it's filler tube. Limped it back some to find no compression on cylinder four. Pulled it apart, and behold, the piston had cracked in two and was held together by the rings. Luckily there was no damage to the cylinder, so I'm just waiting for a new piston to arrive and I'll have it back together.

So in summary, Pegs hasn't been for sale because she's been the most reliable car I've got! Once I've got the 9-5 working car she will be up for sale.

Can't trust these moderns Ed... you'll regret selling Pegg if she goes.

As I said before keep me informed !
Was tracking a nice car on ebay the other day but it got pulled
