Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

The Sierra is giving me jip. Running rich, high tickover (1200 rpm), mixture screw is fully in - 1/4 turn back, starts misfiring at 2000 - 2200 rpm, throttle stop screw is backed off and not making contact, throttle cable has slack and is free moving, as it the throttle linkage assembly. Looking for places to start.

I will be doing a compression test when I get home tomorrow and will change the condenser too.

Anyone got anymore thoughts?

Not yet, got it running and took it out, it needs fine tuning as its still spluttering on deceleration. gets to 30 PDQ and I won't be giving it the beans when i go to work at 7am, at least not up my road.

I shot a rather dark and blurry video on the way back on my phone, i'll get it on you tube in a bit.

1st, 2nd and 3rd need ear defenders however fourth is very quiet so i'll live with it for the moment. £100 for a type 9 that doesn't grind isn't happening this month. Once its been run for a week or two I'll start stripping the legerra down so could always steal the box from that.

Noisy video, probably better on decent speakers.

This might be easier, after looking over it again maybe shutting the window would have stopped the doppler effect of going past parked cars.

Seems the alternator bolts need tweaking too.

Sounds good and running well though it does look like you were cruising to pick up those two women standing by the bus stop at the start :-)

Back again.

Made it to work, still a bit lumpy and getting a bit warm, backfiring and popping nicely on overun too much as well.

the possibility that whoever mentioned cam timing could have been correct, even though all the marks would indicate it was setup correctly. Big question is, which way do i adjust it? I would guess that i have to rotate the camshaft one tooth clockwise so the valves open earlier

Meh... I'll wear that hat if it is the cam timing...

Its no ballsup.. all the timing marks are correct.... but its a pinto, not exactly the finest manufacturing tolerances on most components...

Yes please Mike. I am watching a rather unique one on ebay but it doesnt finish for a couple of days.

You know we thought the cam pointer was a little 'off', maybe be it should be 'off' the other way?

Half a tooth clockwise instead of anti clockwise?

Had to call Dave out tonight to get me home:(
More tinkering followed by a sprint for home with Dave following me. When it goes it goes like the clappers... Then stalls at the traffic lights. I'll take the leggy tomorrow and play with the sierra at the weekend.

something else i found out today. It has one hell of a tight turning circle, enough to make a london taxi jealous.
