Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

We have loads of Sierra's, Melos's and Phaetons, quite a few Legerra's and even a  few B's and Malaga's on here. What I want to know is, where are all the others, the Beneto's, Rico's?

I know both Nick and Mark have Beneto's but they are the only two I have ever seen. Who's hiding the others?

I thought that the 'S' should refer to a Sierra. So the car was sold as chassis S4201, and the DVLA were told in 2005 that it was leaving the UK. The bloke selling in French.

I don't reall know what the S2 chassis looks like, but this is the chassis plate, situated at the top, middle of the engine/cockpit bulkhead:There seems to be a lot of welding around it, in an area I assumed would be fibreglass!

something looks very strange ?  would an owner had at some stage fitted a metal bulkhead  to their car  or does it look like the panel has been cut  and then the vin plate  section welded into it ?  But as Derek says, i also would have expected this to be a fibreglass panel

Engine bay with chassis plate location:

It's probably a decent engine. IF it had been run since 2005!

Its one of the things about dutton that was almost consistant sierras were sxxxx phaetons pxxxx malaga‘s mxxx etc.

"Sierras sxxxx phaetons pxxxx malaga‘s mxxx etc."

That makes sense. Is'S' what the database says or was the plate swopped?

It says S on the database but it's more likely to be a factory cockup stamping the wrong letter.

I don't see the point of transferring an ID unless it was specifically required because they wanted the Q reg.

So, it'sprobably a 'numpty' at the factory who picked up the wrong chassis plate.

I think its probably something like that.

Dutton vehicle ID's number sequentially but the prefix letter denotes which model they go on.

1234 could have been a phaeton, 1235 could have been a Sierra and 1236 a Melos. One slight mistake by the guy punching the plate and that's the sequence thrown to the four winds. then someone comes along and drops the plate in a bag without checking it. After checking the database its not the only one.

I have exported a section of the database with all the reg numbers, chassis numbers and models.

I will be passing this to someone at work who I trust to remove all the duplicates and provide me with a list of serial numbers and their corresponding registrations. There are problems with this as quite a few cars retained their donor VIN and don't fit the system. This will make it easier for me to trace the various vehicles without having to search through 4700 members records..and thats just the primary car records, he has to add the other vehicles sections too. I like making him work for his money.

the problem for the french owner is that it isn't 30 years old, the minimum age for a car with a separate chassis to get a French registration.

I reckon he'd best be sending it back over here then.

Hi guys,

I think it is better the serial numbers and affiliations to leave wherever they are. In the big gray fog,

Otherwise..... it can happen that some vehicles get a lot of problems.
