I'm trying to get my head round where everything will connect to on the cooling system and could do with some help

Right so far I figure, largest outlet on the thermostat housing to the top hose on radiator. Water pump to bottom hose of rad. The small outlet on the top of the thermostat housing to the top pipe on header tank?

I then have remaining the other outlet on themostat housing which would presumably go to the heater matrix but I am not going to run a heater. The small outlet on the side of the rad, the bottom outlet on header tank and this pipe on the inlet side which I presume is to do with cold start.

Help and tips appreciated as usual :)

You must have a small thermostat bypass to enable water to circulate, in order to prevent hot spots around the cylinders during warm up. I have a diagram on my work computer that shows exactly  what you need for the complete system, Im sure I posted it for Danny at some point but cant find it now. If I go into the workshop tomorrow, I will post it for you.

This is a pic of the engine in the car it was removed from

So it looks like the bottom hose is a t and goes to the bottom of the header tank, thats another one

Is the turbo not water cooled?

The series 1 didn't run the turbo water cooled

Any other ideas for what to do with the outlet for the heater matrix and the connection on the inlet?

Heater matrixes are surprisingly restrictive, if you're doing this the put a restrictor in the pipe or too much fluid could bypass.

Oh that simple, makes sense I suppose. What about the overflow on the rad? connect to the header tank somewhere?

Cheers Daryl. On an xr2 forum I have been advised I can join the heater matrix outlet to the inlet one but they need to T in to the bottom hose too

personally i would not be in favour of not fitting a heater even if you only fitted a small heater.

why? even in summer windscreens still mist up and a rainy day can leave you with a screen that just wont stay clear enough to be safe to drive, a severely misted windscreen is enough reason for the old bill to stop and issue you with a fine (they dont do it too often for cars, but have done it for trucks.)

the weight saving by removing the heater on a car like ours is negligible, and they dont take much space...... besides even with the roof down and the heater on it can make the cockpit area a much more pleasant place to be....not every night in summer is a warm one.

Didn't some sierra's use the CVH?  i would try to find an engine bay picture of one of those and that would give you more of an idea of how to run the pipework, but it should be quite simple, its just an inlet and return after all with a valve and bypass on the hot side

I don't really have room for a heater with having to find space for the metering unit and 2 ecu's. The car is only ever going to be used as a toy, I plan on fitting some sort of 12v heater/demister for the screen

This may help you
