"Yes will fit an MT75 as its basically the same as 2.3 Scorpio engine. You'll need to use the scorpio flywheel and clutch if you go that route or use the 1.8 cvh flywheel and type 9 box. MK1/2 mx5 box can be 'grafted' on but its not…"

"Yes the bolt pattern is deffo the same. it's basically the "twinky" DOHC engine from the sierra/granada but with a 16valve head fitted, also used in the later Scorpio's and Galaxy but in 2.3 litre form."

Adrian Southgate replied to Roy Kemp's discussion I4 Twin Cam from a Mk5 RS2000?
"I've got one of these in the unit. The bolt pattern does look the same but I haven't checked it. The MT75 however will require some surgery on the underside to make it fit, its a 'pot belly box' very deep compared to a type 9."

Local, and not too dear.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-RS2000-MK5-2-0-16V-Engine-1991/281929719443Question 1 - Will this fit an MT75 box?Question 2 - Car's currently sporting an 1800 CVH. Given the similarity between the CVH and Zetec, would I be easier fitting one of those? See More

£20 DIY Corner Weight Measurement

Posted on August 8, 2017 at 23:20 16 Comments

Just managed a couple of hours in the workshop. Been meaning to get the corner weights measured for a while, so have had a bit of time to thing about how to do it without handing over the car to a competition prep company or shelling out a fortune for proper corner weight scales. So... The Kemp Method. You will need:

8 pieces of 30mm thick decking board, cut to 320mm long. 4 need bevelled edges.

1 Salter Max Bathroom scale, rated to 250kg, or equivalent.…

Autotest Phaeton - updates Aug 17

Posted on August 4, 2017 at 21:31 2 Comments

Unfortunately, not too much to report.

Steve's had her out again, another demo run at the Alford Speedfest and one Autotest, but I've still only managed one so far this year. Been so busy it's been a total bust, fun wise.

Anyway, in terms of upgrades, about the only thing we've done is get the Peugeot 205GTi 1900 15" alloys fitted to the rear. Needed 20mm spacers, although I reckon 15mm worth might have done. Also discovered the car was already fitted with the…

750MC January Autotest, 08/01/17

Posted on January 12, 2017 at 20:16 0 Comments

Evening chaps,

Just a quick report from the weekend. Well, I drove like a complete tube. Out of 9 competitors the only guys I beat were the two complete novices that I chucked into the Dutton, and one of them was bloody close to making me look bad.

On the plus side, the modifications have cost me a feckin' fortune, but have obviously been worth it. The fact that someone could just jump into a car with no experience and run me close shows how much more compliant…

Happy New Year! And some updates...

Posted on January 1, 2017 at 17:30 2 Comments

First up guys, a big thanks for the guidance and well-natured abuse that I've received from you all over the last year. I hope 2017 brings you all good health and good fortune.

Right, back to business...

** Updates 07/01/17! **

As you've probably seen from the photos, the Phaeton's coming to the end of it's winter modifications. Still a bit to do though:

  • Chassis brace incorporating…

I hate to say this, but I actually have pictures of a Melos being hillclimbed at Wiscombe park and it did OK as well.

Looks a fair buy  Roy, Nick, down here in God's country, does a fair bit of auto testing in his Dutton's, with a fair degree of success,

Roy has the short hardtop for the S3/4, the other type is a 'shooting brake/estate' which makes it into a hatchback by dispensing with the bootlid and covering the space with a rear lift back.

Looks like it has the makings of a nice car Roy.  Mine was barn stored for 9 years before I bought it- great for keeping the body and chassis in good condition, but I found the worlds biggest mouse nest in it ( luckily empty ) and half the wiring eaten away.  You have the advantage of an early registration , so tax free - mine is on a Q plate - registered 1989

So this is it guys. Been stood for three years so needs some re-commissioning, not to mention a damned good wash and de-mossing! Already started getting the knackered engine out but the lighting in the workshop is rubbish, so had to call a halt for today. Hopefully more fun this weekend.
