Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Hi folks,

Starting to have a think about what to do in terms of bonnet mounting. Want to easily be able to swap between road and competition nosecones without weakening the FG by repeatedly undoing and redoing bolted fixings.

Ideally I want to have a mechanism that I can easily remove the bonnet completely from the open position, but obviously will sit in place from the closed position. So when the bonnet is open, I can either lift or slide the single-piece front off completely.

Anyone running anything that sounds like this?

Summat' like this would do, just would need a bigger footprint etc to stop it breaking the bodywork.

Cheers peeps

The Westfield I have been working on has Dzus fasteners, 3 hold the nose cone, one either side and one below, the bonnet had 4, 2 either side. Never came off or rattled at speed, but detached easily when needed, I was impressed, May use some myself when I remodel the front.

Have you checked out project binky on YouTube? They made a lift of flip front for a mini. Looks complex but there is the germ of an idea there if you ignore the most recent episode where they've motorised it - a stage or two too far

'Grinding Scarecrow' - want one..... ok back to binky.

Very addictive ;-0

I saw it posted on Locostbuilders last year and have kept up with it since. Outtakes are funny too!

Hi Steve / Steve / Matt,

Dzus fasteners... now there's a good idea.

Steve & Matt - No, I'd not heard of project Binky. So thanks a lot of wasting most of my afternoon yesterday! Not even got to the part with the hinges yet!

Yeah, thanks a lot guys ......... Grrrrrrrr !!!!!!    Now I cant stop thinking about fitting a motorised lift mechanism to the bonnet on the Phaeton. Bloody good set of video's about project Binky ;-))))))))))

My last phaeton had the hinge rod sat in a "U" channel secured with two bolt on brackets....the 13mm short bolts one multiplug connection and the whole bonnet lifted clear. Took 2 minutes at most...
