Hello again everyone,
Thankfully, my last rallysprint in the 205 went pretty well. No car-conifer interactions this time at least. This means that instead of having to beat the kinks out of a yellow French hatchback, I've been free to spend a wee bit of time on the Phaeton.
I think at the time of my last posting I had got the replacement engine fitted and left it there. And indeed there it stayed for a few weeks, however I've began building it up this very week.…
ContinueHope this will be of interest to some of you, especially those who took the time to share their experience to help me out. A quick recap. I bought an S3 Phaeton in Autumn last year that was running, with MOT and a good basic spec. Probably paid too much but I wanted a runner to work on rather than the B+ Malaga sat in bits.
Spec; 1700 crossflow, twin 40 Dellortos, BCF2 cam, Bosch electronic distributor, Type 9 box, 5 link axle with rose joints, Gaz adjustable dampers.…

My mate bought an alloy sump for his fast pinto, it leaked :-) However help was on hand, we borrowed an AC tig set and I have spent a pleasant afternoon down in his pit welding his sump in position. Pleased to say, I've still got the touch, no more leaks. I have radiation burns on my forearms and neck because I only had a tee shirt and forgot the tig gloves :-(. Smell a bit sumpy oil as well. Plus I'm pretty grimy. All good fun in a kit car builders life.

First successful trip to Stoneleigh after the series 3 Phaeton rebuild. Longest run to date and apart from a few improvements the car was faultless!
