My New Dutton

Posted on September 2, 2016 at 23:26 70 Comments

Today I bought another Dutton. This one has a 3.1 litre Essex V6. It's MOT has lapsed and it has a number of issues, the biggest one being that it has had a front end shunt which has upset the suspension geometry, and the bonnet fit, and the steering. The last 6 inches of the main rail is crumpled, moving the ARB. Finding a good reference to work from to restore the geometry looks to be an interesting puzzle. In this picture you can see that the nearside wheel has a different camber to the…

KitNet track day at Castle Combe

Posted on August 15, 2016 at 23:21 66 Comments

I went to the KitNet track day at Castle Combe today in my Legerra. It was cracking weather and I had a good day. There were positives and some negatives. So starting with then the positives: My new tyres performed well and took 5 seconds off my lap times (down to 1m 35sec), I finally got the Legerra over the ton at 100.3mph on the straight, I met a load of nice chaps and did a lot of chatting plus, to round off the day, I drove it home at the end of the day. Two of the chaps were Duttons -…

Handbag Legerra Developments

Posted on April 16, 2013 at 22:51 97 Comments

After getting the Legerra home a few weeks ago, I have been using it as my daily commute. I have done a few things to it to 'improve' it:

1) I have removed the centre console because I could not take my foot off the clutch with it in place because I have to get my knee next to the steering wheel and my calf was hard against the edge of the console. I have still got to find a place for the dials and switches that were there. When removing the heater controls I found that the outer…

hi there sorry for the delay getting back yo you I had to shelve the build for a short while.

The S4 is mainly built needs to add an engine and brakes and a few other pieces my problem is I don't know whether tyhis car has already been registered.

I have a chassis number that appears to be issued by the DVLA but no decoder I use works

you have any suggestions?

Hi James, very much a project I'm afraid. Pretty much all their, ( side panels are in steel, think they should be alloy and no hood or side screens) just needs putting back together. Early Dutton 1973, with a space frame chassis based on a Spitfire. Original 1147 cc  engine was not with it but it came with 1500cc.

Hi James the Melos is in need of well I have a body and a chassis and not a lot else, so it should keep me busy for a while.

Hello James, No, thers not many here. There is an old Dutton sierra that has been here forever and that is about it. My phaeton is from 1980 and runs but needs a bit of work. It has a small petrol tank in the boot so I suspect its been used for hill climb type events. I guess I would need to put a proper tank in if its to go back on the road.

All the best, James

Not road Worthy yet but getting there. She was in a bit of a state when I bought her but she's coming on in leaps and bounds. She now stars stops and drives. I've started a light restoration of the car. Hopefully she will be at stoneleigh this year.
