Megasquirt

For sometime now i have been tempted by a megasqirt system, has any of you out there got any experience of them and know where i can get one (i could order the kit, but i figure it will be cheaper to get a secondhand one or unfinished one)

I'm exhausted ..

Been out playing with pipes tonight. Thanks to Martin for the loan of his old westie exhaust, can't wait to fire her up tomorrow just to hear what it sounds like. I'll get a better picture in daylight.

I'm exhausted...

a busy day

Yesterday as i have mentioned on Danny's status i replaced all 4 wheel bearings on my sierra. at a cost of £6 each for the rears and £5 each for the fronts. The rears are straight forward to do but you need to disconnect the brakes and re-bleed them. Because the brake back plates are held in by the half shafts.....now i know that it is possible to remove the half shafts with out removing the brakes, but in practice if the half shafts have not recently been removed it is just easier to take…

In need of a brake---------

When i bought a new master cylinder a while back i also obtained a used remote servo and fitted them at the same time, now with the old m/cyl and no servo the brakes had been very poor so it was no suprise that the change i made improved the brakes a lot but not as much as i had hoped, and since then no matter how many times i had bled them theres always been some air in the system. It had got to being the norm that i was bleeding them every month to keep a reasonable pedal so today i decided…

stopping competition.....in which i came second.

I have just pranged my car !.....! Ironically involveing an ambulance who was over taking on a blind bend with solid white lines i slammed on the brakes and swerved onto the grass bank and just caught the guy in front on my O/S to his N/S. bonnet is not in great condition now , o/s chassis is bent. All is repairable but bum bum bum.

Tonight I have been 'blingin ma ride'

Or something like that...Someone asked how big a rim you can get on a Dutton... These are 8j 15's with no spacers due to being centre offset.

I know they won't be to everybodies taste but the tyres will be replaced with something chunkier before winter so they will actually serve a useful purpose.…

Today I have written a 'remaining jobs' list just for fun.

Fuel tank and pipe to pump.

Radiator brackets and top hose.

Sender units and coil mounting.

Washer bottle and plumbing.

Check all brake pipe unions

Longer wheel studs all round

Identify and terminate all the wires under the dash

Finish back door shut glassing up.(my 'wet weather' job)

Battery mounts and cables

Exhaust (awaiting parts)

That should keep me busy for a day or two.…

Today I am ..

Enjoying the sunshine, wiring the Sierra and buying stuff on ebay (again)

Despite having many big boxes full of odd nuts and bolts I don't seem to be able to find the coarse pitch UNF blots for the seat belts. M10 bolts thread into the holes but are so slack you can nearly wiggle them out

Are these bolts 3/4 UNF Cp or 5/8 UNF CP, does anybody know?

show car

Any one out there willing to put their hopefully standard (as near as possible) Dutton Phaeton (or a Malaga B+) on a show stand for the duration of a show with 20-30 similar early kit cars at Donnington?

The car should be as early as possible with a tidy appearance and on as near as possible contemporary wheels and as close too the factory design as is feasible, it does not need to be a concourse car  just tidy. Something to show us all in a good light. Suggestions please.

Tonight I will be

Clearing up trying to find those elusive bits that have vanished.

Despite many hours and help from Mr H I have passed my deadline and therefore failed to get the Sierra ready for this weekend.

On the bright side I have got a lot of the base work done and much progress made but for the lack of a few bits and a couple of days work its not going to make it. Maybe next week, maybe the week after but it wont be long.
